Baptism is the outward expression of professed faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism does not save only Jesus saves. Baptism symbolizes our death, burial and resurrection in Jesus Christ and is intended only for those who have professed faith in Jesus Christ.

Reasons for Baptism:

  1. Baptism is the first step of obedience: Matthew 28:19 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

  2. Baptism follows the example of Christ: Matthew 3:16 “As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him.”

  3. Baptism follows the example of the early Christians: Acts 2:41 “Those who accepted his messages were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.”

  4. Baptism celebrates the Gospel for the person with new life in ChristRomans 6:3-6 “Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.”

  5. Baptism is a good conscience before Christ: 1 Peter 3:21 “and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ…”
