What is the Gospel?

The gospel is not something that you need to do, but something that has already been done for you. It is the good news of God’s grace invading the darkness of our world. It is the grand narrative of creation, fall, redemption and reconciliation through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Christ’s death is a substitutionary and propitiatory sacrifice to God for our sins. It satisfies the demands of God’s holy justice and appeases His holy wrath. It also demonstrates His mysterious love and reveals His amazing grace. Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and man. By trusting in who Jesus is and what He has done, we are made right with God, adopted into his family, and will enjoy fellowship with him forever.

The Gospel transforms our hearts and our thinking and our approached to absolutely everything. Because the gospel is endlessly rich, it can handle the burden of being the one main thing of our church.

Basic Beliefs:

  • The Scriptures are true, authoritative and sufficient.

  • There is only one true God, Creator of heaven and earth, who eternally exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  • God created men and women in his own image to glorify Him. As such, all people have inherent dignity, value, and worth.

  • All humanity is sinful by both birth and action and the deserved penalty for sin is death.

  • Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, was born of a virgin and is both fully God and fully human.

  • Jesus Christ died on the cross as the sacrificial substitute to pay the penalty for sin.

  • Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead, ascended into heaven and will one day physically return.

  • Salvation is a gift from God and not a result of one’s doing. Only by grace through faith in Jesus Christ will one receive forgiveness of sins and Christ’s righteousness that provide reconciliation to God and eternal life with Him.

  • There will be a future physical resurrection of the dead. Only those who turn from sin and to Jesus in faith and repentance will be raised to eternal reward. Those who do not turn from sin and to Jesus will be raised to eternal punishment.
